As a mom, it hurts me to see how upset you are about Zayn leaving the band.
I’m sorry you have to go through this.
Your heart has been broken, and you really can’t explain why you feel the way you do.
It’s because you were in love.
It’s not the kind of love your parents would consider “real,” but your feelings are very real – the giddiness, the excitement and the swooning over every word and photo made you feel connected to five boys from the UK. They were decent guys who knew how to sing and talk about relationships with girls, and they made you dream about having those kinds of relationships in real life. As a mom, I’m glad their lyrics set the bar so high on how you should be treated.
It’s okay to cry.
It’s okay to mourn loss.
No one should make fun of you for that.
I’m sure this feels like a death to you because something that was a part of your daily existence for more than four years no longer exists.
The One Direction you know and love will be different from this point forward. You’re right, no one will be able to hit Zayn’s high notes and their sound will change. But it’s not the end of the musical world, even though it may feel that way to you right now.
Think about what you’ve gained. The 1D fandom brought you new friendships. You connected with people all over the world. You discovered what it was like to dance like no one was watching and just have fun with music. None of that is lost.
Hang in there.
Your moms know what you’re feeling – we cried when Justin Timberlake left NSYNC.
It will get better.
